Support Services – Dietary, Housekeeping & Laundry
Description
This position reports to the Manager of Support Services and will be cross trained within the Dietary, Housekeeping & Laundry Departments.
Requirements:
- Food Handlers Certificate
- Recent Criminal Record Check
- Recent Adult Abuse Registry Check
Job Duties:
Dietary Aide – You will be responsible for assisting with food preparation; portioning and serving prepared foods to residents and other duties related to dietary service including unpacking and putting away supplies and stock rotation, under the general supervision of the cook or designate.
Laundry Aide – You will be responsible for the collection of soiled linen, washing and delivering clean linen and related items, monitoring, and maintaining linen quotas for user areas and inspecting and labelling resident apparel.
Housekeeping Aide – You will be responsible for routine and cycle cleaning of the facility and resident rooms. Must be able to clean housekeeping equipment safely.
Other Information – Successful candidates must be able to read, write and speak English fluently and possess good communication skills including an ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, residents and their family members and the public.
Physical requirements including lifting 50lbs(22.68kgs), prolonged standing, pushing, pulling, bending and extended periods of time in high heat, humidity and noise levels.
Preference will be given to candidates with long-term care work experience.

Summer Student – Activity Worker
Description
Under the direction of the Manager of Recreation and Adult Day Program, the Activity Worker Summer Student is responsible for resident leisure planning. Coordination and assisting with outings for residents and Adult Day Program participants. Aiding of recreation programs on and off of units. The successful candidate will be a committed team player, with above average communication skills. The Recreation Department takes a team approach to meeting the needs of the Residents and the Activity Worker will be required to support this Philosophy.
This position involves extensive physical activity such as prolonged standing, bending, pushing, pulling and lifting and includes equipment set up and resident portering.
Requirements:
- Between the ages of 15 and 30 years
- Was registered as a full time student during the preceding academic year
- Intends to return to school on a full-time basis during the next school year.
- Is a student in a secondary, post-secondary, vocational or technical program related to recreation, fitness, or gerontology
- Is legally entitled to work to the relevant provincial legislation and regulations.

Summer Student – Landscape Labourer
Description
The Fred Douglas Lodge Personal Care Home is seeking one (1) full-time Summer Student for entry level position. This position will assist with cleaning, yard maintenance, gardening, painting and will assist with general labour with other projects and initiatives as required.
As this is a grant-funded position, applicants must be between 15 and 30 years of age.
Note: Students must intend on returning to school, college or university in the fall.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist with general clean-up, lawn maintenance and gardening.
- Perform assorted duties as requested.
- Provide assistance with other projects and initiatives.
Requirements:
- Is a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act
- Is legally entitled to work according to provincial legislation and regulations.
- Must be physically fit.
- Must be reliable.
- Able to work independently and as part of a team.
